Abstract

Abstract Efficacy of selected insecticides was evaluated against birch leafminer on 3.5- to 4.5-m-tall birch trees growing in an experimental plot under nursery management conditions at The Ohio State University, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center near Wooster. Sprays were applied to individual branches of 4, single-tree replicates using a CO2 compression sprayer with a single SS8004 flat-fan nozzle operating at 40 psi. Trees were sprayed 17 May under cloudy skies at 18°C with no breeze. Treatment effectiveness was evaluated on 12 Jun by counting the number of mined vs. unmined leaves on the terminal 30 cm of 1 sprayed twig per tree.
