Abstract
Climate change, global food security and environmental sustainability have become major challenges over the past decades. The race against the clock, in which humanity finds itself due to the irreversible nature of global warming and the increasing impact of harmful organisms on agricultural crops, which considerably reduce food security and food safety, determines the need to develop and apply biotechnological, ecologically harmless means of maintaining the dynamic balance between phytosanitary agents and useful natural entities. This paper discusses the results recorded in the application of biotechnological methods of production and application of biological means aimed at reducing the impact of harmful insect populations through the application of entomopathogenic microorganisms and genetic methods of combat through sterilization, the cultivation of same-sex and conditionally sterile specimens, the application of technologies genome editing, which changes their genetic background.
