Abstract

1. 1. The synthesis of phosphatidic acid from labelled precursors, [ 3H]palmitic acid and [ 14C]glycerol 3-phosphate. was studied in microsomes of liver and lung from maternal and fetal rabbits. 2. 2. The rate of in vitro synthesis of phosphatidic acid by liver microsomes of pregnant rabbits was in good agreement with the levels of plasma glycerolipids. 3. 3. It agrees with previous data on the biosynthesis of phosphoglycerides and pulmonary surfactant during the perinatal development of the lung. 4. 4. On the other hand. metabolic maturity of liver in order to synthesize phosphatidic acid was achieved during the postnatal period.
