Abstract
The export of cytotoxic compounds via molecular pumps is one of the key survival mechanisms of the cell. Small multidrug resistance (SMR) transporters are widely distributed amongst the bacterial phyla and contribute to the spread of drug resistance in bacteria. Recently, a high-resolution structure of a SMR transporter homolog from Clostridales oral taxon 876, Gdx-Clo, was reported in both apo and bound states. These high-resolution structures provide an avenue for a comprehensive mechanistic study.
