Abstract

ABSTRACT An investigation on the biometry of cnidae was carried out on the rustica-color variety of the sea anemone Anemonia viridis from the Aegean Sea. Some morphological characters of several nematocyst types were found to be correlated with biotic factors, such as weight. Variations within the species was shown to depend on location of origin. Nevertheless, the morphology of several nematocyst types was influenced neither by weight nor biotope, and these characters can be considered as stable and reliable in taxonomic diagnostics.
