Abstract
Clear aligner therapy has become increasingly popular due to its esthetic and comfort advantages. However, its predictability in certain tooth movements, particularly rotations, is limited compared to fixed appliances. This article explains the biomechanical differences between fixed appliances and clear aligners, highlighting the influence of tooth geometry and aligner-tooth interface dynamics on treatment outcomes. It also explores the impact of unintended movements and the need for open contacts to facilitate rotations. By understanding these biomechanical details and considering innovative attachment designs and movement planning strategies, clinicians can enhance the predictability and effectiveness of clear aligner therapies.
