Abstract

The process of volumetric sterilization by gamma-irradiation of composite cellular material actively used for bone defect replacement in medicine is studied. The purpose of this study is to substantiate the necessary doses of gamma-irradiation for sterilization of highly porous carbon material "Carbon-FC" without reducing its mechanical characteris-tics. The technique of volumetric sterilization of the material under study and its testing for microbiological sterility is described. The results of mechanical tests of samples be-fore and after gamma-irradiation are given. Recommendations on selection of ionizing radiation doses providing microbicidal effect without reduction of strength properties during compression of the material under study are given.
