Abstract

The CeO2/TiO2 templated with nanocellulose was prepared through hydrolysis–precipitation method. The nanocellulose templated CeO2/TiO2 catalyst abbreviated as CeO2/TiO2-NCC was characterization by XPS, XRD, UV–Vis DRS, FTIR, SEM, TEM and N2 adsorption/desorption methods. The CeO2/TiO2-NCC photocatalytic efficiency was also checked for the removal of Rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO), and reduction of Cr(VI). As it is indicated from the results, the CeO2/TiO2-NCC prepared with nanocellulose as a template showed greater performance than CeO2/TiO2 prepared without nanocellulose templated. Complete removal of MO and RhB, (250 mL, 50 ppm), and reduction of Cr(VI) solution (250 mL, 50 ppm) were achieved within 70, 50, and 60 min, respectively. Therefore, the CeO2/TiO2-NCC exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity due to smaller crystallite size, greater specific surface area, and lower electron and hole recombination rate.
