Abstract

A substance was detected in necrctic mouse sarcoma 180 tumor as well as in incubated normal mouse liver and spleen which, when mixed with viable tumor cells, inhibited growth of the tumor in the mouse. The inhibiting substance was also effective in preventing growth of a transplantable mammary gland tumor which appeared spontaneously in the mouse colony. Sarcoma 180 was inhibited by a substance that developed in incubated Ehrlich ascites and spontaneous mammary gland tumors. This substance is heat-stable, remains active after storage at 37°C for 4 years and is insoluble in saline and soluble in lipid solvents.
