Abstract

The adsorption and immobilization of L-lysine into electrochemically synthesized porous hydroxyapatite coatings is described as a method of fabricating delivery systems for sustained release of osteoinductive proteins. The nature of interfacial interactions between L-lysine and hydroxyapatite was investigated by FTIR spectroscopy. The formation of hydrogen bonding between the CO groups of L-lysine and polar OH groups of hydroxyapatite was shown to be a major factor affecting the chemical intermolecular attractions.
