Abstract
Yeast Cadmium Factor-1 (Ycf1) is a vacuolar membrane localized ATP Binding Cassette (ABC) transporter belonging to the C-subfamily and plays a crucial role in cell survival during stress by maintaining the homeostasis of the heavy metals (Cd, Hg and Pb) and glutathione in cytoplasm by transporting them in vacuole. Many ABCC subfamily transporters adopts a fast switch on-and-off mechanisms to cope with stress conditions. One of such mechanism is regulation of transport activity by phosphorylation of intrinsically disordered domains, known as regulatory domains (R-domains).
