Abstract

In certain circumstances the analysis of drugs in uncommon biological matrices such as semen, breast milk, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid and bile may be required. The high specificity and sensitivity of liquid chromatography coupled with atmospheric pressure ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-API-MS/MS), has greatly eased the development of methods involving unusual matrices, although different sample pretreatment approaches may still be required for different matrices. Methods are described and compared for the quantification of a guanosine-based antiviral in plasma, semen and cerebrospinal fluid by LC-API-MS/MS.
