Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the impact of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) on the environment. Water hyacinth (WH) is anaquatic plant belonging to the Pontedericeae family. Typically, it floats freely on the surface of fresh water, although it can also be anchored in sludge. The fossil fuels have been proven to have limited quantities, and are therefore considered diminishing resources. Hence, they are need to be replaced, which can be accomplished by replacing these fuels with renewable energy, such as biodiesel derived from ecosystems and agroecosystems. Biodiesel fuels are eco-friendly, renewable, and biodegradable. It also exhibits the good lubricating properties than the petroleum fuel and increases engine longevity. In the present study we used WH to produce the biofuel.
