Abstract
A method for coding arbitration numbers in distributed arbitration schemes as used in Futurebus is proposed. The method is based on minimising the number of level changes in the arbitration process and allows one to reduce the arbitration time considerably. An algorithm for the construction of optimal codes for specified arbitration delay and number of arbitration lines is given.
