Abstract

• Dual cocatalysts, MoS 2 and MoO 2 , are synthesized in one step. • Photogenerated electrons and holes are separated in space due to MoS 2 and MoO 2 . • Photocatalytic hydrogen production is coupled with pyruvic acid synthesis. Recently, a bifunctional CdS/MoO 2 /MoS 2 photocatalyst has been reported for coupling hydrogen production and pyruvic acid synthesis. MoS 2 and MoO 2 , which are synthesized in one step, facilitate the bifunctional integration of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution and pyruvic acid synthesis by accepting photogenerated electrons and holes, respectively. This work inspires the new idea of coupling hydrogen production with selective organic synthesis to obtain green hydrogen and high-value products.
