Abstract

An algorithm has been conceived to provide radar systems with the capability of recognizing moving targets as helicopters, turbofan aircraft or turboprop aircraft. This NCTR (Non Co-operative Target Recognition) application has been tested on simulated signals obtained after HERM (HElicopter Rotor Modulation) and JEM (Jet Engine Modulation) modelling studies. High values of PRF (Pulse Repetition Frequency) and ToT (Time on Target) are both necessary for radars to extract meaningful information from echoes due to the rotating parts of helicopters and aircraft.
