Abstract
Sir Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar, a native of Maharashtra, was a prodigious Indologist who made lasting contributions to the study of Sanskrit, Prakrit, Indian history, religions, and philosophy, as an author, lecturer, and administrator. He was the first Indian scholar to explore Indian religions, myths, and history with judge-like impartiality and scientific objectivity.
