Abstract

The article discusses the modern novel "Griffin Tower", epic meditation by Oleg Stolyarov, a modern poet, member of the Writers' Union of Moscow, the author of 41 poetry books, Candidate in Philology, Head of the Chair, Moscow State Humanitarian Economy University. The novel under consideration was written and published in 2013, but is still topical today. The author of the novel raises philosophical questions of human existence in the modern system of cultural coordinates, but always draws parallels with different historical periods in Russia and Europe. The novel is interesting from the point of view of mythological poetics, because its plot is elevated to the mythology of initiations and legends about griffins which are latent in the Petersburg text. Mythological tradition is expressed both explicitly and implicitly. The work is also of interest in terms of poetics – the narration is full of lyrical digressions and verses of the poet.
