Abstract

ABSTRACT This article introduces the course curriculum of a third-year Korean language content course, Korean Through Popular Music, offered at a U.S. university during the pandemic in the spring semester of 2021. Although the benefits of using music in foreign language classrooms have been agreed upon in research and practice, few studies share concrete teaching strategies and assignments that incorporate music. Moreover, previous studies generally examine the role of music in beginning-level classrooms across languages. This article describes a language curriculum centered on music for a semester-long, advanced-level language course. The article shares weekly activities and projects as well as pandemic-inspired classroom strategies that can be adapted for other teaching contexts.
