Abstract
Abstract A time-of-flight technique is used for the measurement of positive ions mobilities in helium, neon and argon in the 1 - 25 atm pressure range at 25 °C. The reduced mobilities b0 vary with the reduced electric field E/p0 and exhibit different saturation values, which are interpreted in terms of the Langevin theory and connected with the formation of cluster ions: He+ 33 (b0 = 7.4 cm2/Vs), Ne+ 13 (3.1), Ne+33 (2.25), Ar+ 13 (1.23) and Ar+ 33 (0.82). In Argon also the reduced mobility of Ar+ and Ar+ 2 were measured: b0 = 1.56 and 1.84cm2/Vs.
