Abstract

This article discusses the trajectory of preservation of the Ruins of the Church of São José do Queimado, in Serra, Espírito Santo. For this, it produces a reflection on the old district of the capital of Espírito Santo, as well as the oblivion and invisibility of its ruins that may be related to a conception of heritage forged in 1937 with the creation of SPHAN. With this, we seek to highlight the understanding that the fight for the preservation of a cultural heritage can move individuals to recognize themselves as historical subjects in the search for the recognition of rights.
