Abstract

Discovered in April 2015 at Bois de Mirebeau in Bais (Mayenne, France), this new hoard made up of palstaves and annular ornaments, an association of objects frequently found in north-western France dating from the Middle Bronze Age 2. The interest of this hoard lies in the typological and cultural considerations of its objects. In this paper, we aim to discuss both the typology and technology of the fourteen palstaves and six annular ornaments, in particular regarding the definition of a new type of palstave (Bais type) that combines characteristics of the Breton and Norman types. This new discovery is at the crossroads of Armorican and Norman influences, which matches its geographical location.
