Abstract
Upon chromatography of a plasma extract on aluminum oxide 80% of total 17-KS were found in fractions, which also contained lipid material, while only 20% exhibited a polarity corresponding to that of 17-KS-sulfates. Subsequent chromatography of non-polar material on silicic acid resulted in a marked decrease of nonpolar 17-KS-conjugates at a simultaneous increase in the fraction behaving like synthetic 17-KS-sulfates. The mixture of non-polar 17-KS-conjugates contained dehydroepiandrosterone, androsterone, etiocholanolone, and IIβ-hydroxy-etiocholanolone.
