Abstract

The inhibition effect of tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO), triphenylarsine oxide (TAsO), triphenylphosphine oxide (TPO), triphenylarsine (TPAs) and triphenylphosphine (TPP) on the polarographic reduction of Cd2+, Zn2+ and Co2+ ions in aqueous methanolic and methanolic solutions has been studied. A different action of the inhibitors was obtained for each reducible ion. No change in the mechanism of the cathodic reductions has been observed. In all systems TOPO appeared to be the strongest inhibitor.
