Abstract

Studies on DDT-metabolism of the hare (Lepus europaeus L.) The DDT-metabolism within the organism of the hare was studied by help of gaschromatographics. The results showed an annual rhythm of the processes of metabolism corresponding to physiological processes. In consequence of transformation of the predominant part of DDT into p,p' DDE and p-p' DDD which are excreted by urine some days after taking up, the danger of poisoning considerably declines. This is of importance particularly for the young hares in spring. The activity of the processes of DDT-metabolism strongly increases in advance of the loss of weight during the winter. By this protection is given against accumulations of poisons in the fat-depots reduced at this time.
