Abstract
Benign fibrous histiocytoma (BFH) is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm, composed of fibroblasts and histiocytes in variable proportions; it is uncommon to find BFH intraorally. To date, approximately 50 oral BFH cases have been reported; of them, 2 cases affected the palate. A 47-year-old female patient was referred for management of a slow-growing lesion in the soft palate region that appeared 1 year ago. The nodular lesion was asymptomatic, well delimited, firm, and covered by normal mucosa. Radiographic exams did not show any bone changes. After incisional biopsy, histopathology revealed a benign spindle cell neoplasia admixed with inflammatory cells, showing immunopositivity for vimentin, CD68, CD163, FXIIIA, and α-SMA.
