Abstract

The optimal age for the surgical neutering of canines has always been and will forever be a greatly debated subject amongst different authors. The goal of this article is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of prepubescent sterilization in large and giant breeds. In order to achieve this, it will analyze a series of USA and Europe based studies, as well as the author’s own experience. The conclusion drawn will be that there are no standard situations, every case being unique to the characteristics of the individual and the risks associated with each separated breed.
