Abstract
In this essay, Rick Bass looks at Montana's Yaak Valley, the national park found there, and the story of the area as it pertains to the Back Ram timber project, which threatens the loss of over 900 acres of trees. Bass criticizes the United States federal government, and its allowance of such a loss, while demonstrating Black Ram's historical importance, and how the government's indifference affects a greater, international ecosystem.
