Abstract

In this interview, conducted entirely via email, the Webmasters of Behind the Mask, a gay-affirmative Website serving Southern Africa, discuss the origins and goals of their project. The digital conversation touches on the need to disseminate information about sexuality to African peoples and the concurrent difficulties of establishing “gay” communities in Africa, since many Africans do not use terms such as “gay” or “homosexual” to describe identities or behavior.
