Abstract

Certain behavioural aspects of Mylabris phalerata (Pallas) the most widely distributed species of blister beetles (Meloidae) in India have been presented. These beetles, like blister beetles in general, are attracted to yellow petals but M. phalerata abandon the yellow Canna as soon as Ipomoea carnea is in bloom, although this flower is not yellow at all. Mating and egg laying have been studied. These beetles mate on Calotropis procera, Acacia arabica and Cassia sopherea but not on their food plant Ipomoea carnea.
