Abstract

Abstract In this paper we look first at the various models which have influenced social work practice, noting the recent interest in behavioural intervention. Following a discussion of the basic tenets of behavioural theory, the article moves on to describe the training in behaviour therapy available to social workers. It is suggested that training cannot only improve practice, it can also challenge many of the myths surrounding behavioural work. Finally, the article considers the application to which, suitably trained, social workers might employ behavioural interventions.
