Abstract
In the case of leaks or venting, a turbomolecular pump (TMP) has to operate at high pressures, which causes unusually high forces acting on the pump elements. In order to guarantee the security and reliability of the pump, these effects have to be determined. The problems connected with such cases are described, and some results for operating the TMP in the fluid flow region are presented.
