Abstract

In order to examine the behavior of polymeric pyridinium salts as effective corrosionresistant reagents in nickel-plating, 14C-labeled polymeric 2-methyl-5-vinyl-N-allylpyri-dinium bromide was prepared. The amounts of the polymer which was incorporated in nickel electrodeposited from a nickel plating solution were determined by measuring its radioactivity, It was found that the polymer was incorporated undoubtedly in the nickel electrodeposit, and the amounts of its incorporation were dependent on both current density and concentration of the polymer in the plating solution. The amounts of the polymer adsorbed on the same nickel plate simply immersed in the plating solution were very small compared with those o f incorporation.
