Abstract
Abdominal pain is a common presenting symptom in the emergency department (ED), and bedside sonography can quickly rule out life-threatening conditions such as an abdominal aortic aneurysm. As it has become more available and familiar to clinicians, the use of sonography in noncritical situations has expanded. We present a case in which clinician-performed beside sonography was used to quickly make the unusual diagnosis of a mobile kidney in an ED patient with a painful abdominal mass.
