Abstract
Ratings for basic interviewing skills exhibited by beginning social work students compared with similar ratings assigned to the work of three expert psvchotherapists. The impact of experience and theoretical orientation on scores obtained is describes as are effects on interrater reliabilities. Possible implications for training students and assessing competence are explored.
