Abstract
This chapter describes the basic assumptions of information systems that must be satisfied to increase the competitiveness of a production company in the European Union. The application of these assumptions within a new computer-aided process planning (CAPP) system design is also discussed. Analyses of the cost structures of small- and medium-scale manufacturers indicate the significance of CAPP in production cost composition. Thus, considerable attention should be paid to the CAPP area because it can influence the output costs of a product and its quality in great measure. Thus, the first part of this chapter describes the basic requirements of information systems that must be satisfied in order for a company to be effective and successful in its activities. The second part of this chapter describes a new flexible CAPP system that was built on a modular structure; the functionality of this system was verified by implementing the CAPP system into the actual information structure of a regional company. The principles of this newly designed CAPP system could form the basis of a company’s increasing competitiveness, as well as its integration into “Industry 4.0”.
