Abstract

Sebastian “Bas” Pease, the British physicist who made many contributions to fusion research, died on 17 October at the age of 81. Pease was director of the Culham Laboratory from 1968 to 1981 and then spent six years as programme director for fusion at the UK Atomic Energy Authority. He was also a leading supporter of the Joint European Torus (JET) experiment and played a key role in having it built at Culham.
