Abstract

The world's leading fusion experiment is set to continue for another three years. The Joint European Torus (JET) project at Culham in the UK will now operate until the end of 2002 following the signing of a new European agreement worth over £100m. The JET facilities will be operated by the UK Atomic Energy Authority. while the research programme will be conducted by teams of scientists from JET's member states. The agreement brings to an end a long-standing dispute over staff salaries (Physics World May 999 p7).
