Abstract

The Triple Helix theory explains the relationship between three important stakeholders: university, industry and government. The collaboration between university and industry in research projects contributes to benefits not only to the partners involved but also to provide positive impacts on society and the country’s economy. However, to develop successful collaboration projects is challenging. There are still projects that fail to deliver. Thus, this study aims to identify the types of barriers to developing a successful university-industry research collaboration. A descriptive analysis conducted among the university researchers determined that time constraints as the most crucial barrier, followed by inadequate infrastructure and industry research is short-term-oriented. The findings acknowledge the collaboration stakeholders on the barriers faced by the researchers, thus encouraging them to improve the current practices in order to develop more successful research collaboration between university and industry in future.
