Abstract

About fifteen years ago, a forecast on the future of communication media was conducted at the Research Institute of Telecommunications and Economics in Japan. It is very interesting to notice that there was exceedingly underevaluated tendency for the development of electronic text communication in the forecast. Instead of appreciation of text communication, non-verbal communication was considered as the most important form of human communication in the 21st century. In other words, there was no discussion on the remarkable progress of the electronic text communication media at that time, such as vieotext and teletext.
