Abstract

The energy bands both in SC and FCC structures are calculated using the relativistic KKR method. In contrast to earlier calculations the results are sensitive to changes in the structure. A nondirect transition model is constructed to explain the optical properties of expanded fluid mercury on the basis of a quasicrystalline model. Discrepancies between optical and electrical transport data are critically examined.
