Abstract
AbstractA quasicrystalline model is considered for the optical absorption of expanded fluid mercury. Starting from a KKR band calculation for fcc and sc crystals disorder is simulated by density fluctuations chosen to match the exponential tail of the absorption edge. A nondirect transition model can then well account for the absorption data observed experimentally.
