Abstract

Abstract Employing angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation in combination with band structure calculations we determine experimental and theoretical momentum resolved band structures for the misfit compound (PbS)NbS2 and the reference material NbSe2. The high quality of the crystals was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. With the extended linear augmented plane wave (ELAPW) k.p method the band structures have been calculated for the misfit compound as well as for NbSe2. The comparison between experiment and theory lays special emphasis on the deviations from the rigid band model due to a more ionic bonding between the layers of the misfit compounds.
