Abstract

AbstractExperiments show that except for the Peierls instability the conduction electrons in K2[Pt(CN)4]Br0.30·3H2O behave as nearly free electrons in the c‐direction. This is concluded from the optically deduced effective mass m* ≈︁ me, from the oscillator strength sum rule and from energy and oscillator strength of the first interband transition. It is shown that this result although unexpected at first sight is a natural consequence of the one‐dimensionality of the system.
