Abstract

The political scenario of the eighteenth century in India is well known for its transitional character. Those who looked for opportunities in the Company rule very soon realised what the loss of power to the British meant. This article studies the factors behind the revolts in Banaras Raj against the Company in 1781 and then in 1799.
