Abstract

Bacterial reduction of hexavalent chromium (chromate: CrO 4 2−) was investigated using fed-batch cultures of Enterobacter cloacae strain HOl. In the fed-batch cultures, toxic CrO 4 2− was continuously added in small doses to minimize the toxic effect. The fed-batch process was proved to be an effective biological method for detoxifying CrO 4 2− in aqueous solutions.
