Abstract
Safety is always at the top priority in transfusion medicine. With improvement of viral testing, although the risk of transfusion-transmitted viral infection is now at its very low level, bacterial sepsis has been reported repeatedly. Not only they can result in serious clinical consequence but can also lead to potential medicolegal problems. Therefore, transfusion experts have looked into the prevalence, pathogenesis, detection and risk minimization of transfusiontransmitted bacterial sepsis over the past years. Below is a short update of the subject.
