Abstract

This paper presents the design of a fractional order based controller for an axial Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) control loop used to maintain the rotating machinery shaft centered in its axial airgap in presence of axial disturbances. The CRONE methodology makes it possible to take into account strong performance and control effort specifications which have resulted in frequency domain sensitivity constraints. Simulations results shows that the controller provides very good dynamic performance.
