Abstract

The study assessed the extent of availability of security devices in secondary schools in Enugu State for effective security management. One research question and one research hypothesis guided the study. The study was a descriptive survey, involving 305 principals. Data were collected using questionnaire titled Extent of Security Devices in Secondary Schools (ESDSS). Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer the research questions, while z-test statistic was used to test the hypothesis at the alpha level of 0.05. The findings reveal that secondary schools in Enugu State do not have adequate security devices to ensure safety in the schools. Based on the finding, it was recommended that school management should take the issue of security as a matter of priority and so allocate funds for the purchasing of such security devices as video surveillance (CCTV), sprinkler system to control fire damage, metal dictators, lightening system on sensitive areas among other devices.
