Automatic Titrators in the Analytical and Physical Chemistry Laboratories

Abstract

In 1995 the University of Florida received an NSF-ILI grant to purchase six automatic titrators, which have now been successfully integrated into the analytical and physical chemistry teaching laboratories. After they have mastered fundamental techniques, students in the introductory analytical laboratory gain experience with automated analyses in three experiments: the iodimetric analysis of ascorbic acid, the determination of polymer molecular weight, and the analysis of chloride by ion selective electrode. The titrators are also used in the instrumental analysis laboratory for Karl Fischer titrations and the coulometric analysis of EDTA.
